Kelly's new single Already Gone (My Career) flopping soon at ur local radio stationSingle ladies: Why Kelly Clarkson’s new song sounds a lot like Beyonce’s Halo If you’ve been listening to the radio lately, it’s possible you’ve heard the soaring strains of Already Gone, the newest single off All I Ever Wanted. It’s very likely that you thought you’d heard the epic song before, albeit in a slightly different form. Kelly Clarkson collaborated with Ryan Tedder on the track, a dramatic ballad driven by a pounding heartbeat, twinkly piano and swooping strings. Unbeknownst to Clarkson, Tedder used suspiciously similar elements when he produced another recent mega-hit, Beyonce’s Halo. “Ryan and I met each other at the record label, before he was working with anyone else,” Clarkson begins, gritting her teeth. “He’s from Oklahoma, I’m from Texas; we got along really well and had some of the same influences. We wrote about six songs together, four or five of them made the album. It was all fine and dandy. I’d never heard of a song called Halo. Her album came out when my album was already being printed. No-one’s gonna be sittin’ at home, thinking ‘Man, Ryan Tedder gave Beyonce and Kelly the same track to write to.’ No, they’re just gonna be saying I ripped someone off. I called Ryan and said, ‘I don’t understand. Why would you do that?’” The palpably frustrated Clarkson claims she “fought and fought” to try and prevent her label from releasing Already Gone as her third single, out of respect for Beyonce. “In the end, they’re releasing it without my consent,” she sighs. “It sucks, but it’s one of those things I have no control over. I already made my album. At this point, the record company can do whatever they want with it. It’s kind of a s**tty situation, but.… You know, you learn.” source

She lost control after My December........
Remember when she fought for Because of You to be on her album in the first place? She came across the song during recording of her first album and no one thought it was gonna work. She pushed for it and it became one of her biggest hits. She does have an ear for songs, but she wants to be an Alanis Morrisette when she should be more like Pat Benatar.
After this record, she needs to go to another label that is tiny enough to let her have some freedom but big enough to release stuff on a larger scale.

No one's going to be thinking he gave them the same track to write to, because everyone knows Beyonce is a fucking thief who doesn't write - she has 7% credit on Halo, compared to 30% Ryan Tedder; Kelly has 40% on Already Gone, 30% for Ryan. That is why she is choosing to perform the song in a country-esque style when promoting it - and I love her refreshing honesty. This is the first single she co-wrote from this record, yet she's not bothered!

QUOTE (tommie @ Jul 25 2009, 15:06) Isn't Kelly Clarkson pretty much OVAH these days? Pretty much. My Life was a decent hit but people have already forgotten it. The album was a complete non event in the UK and people didn't really notice it.

Newsflash: Artists only pretend to choose their singles. Marketing at their label does with input from their manager.
When a company is going to put millions of dollars into a single song (not to mention the cost of the album), they are going to choose which one. Nothing new here, very very common for an artist to dispute their label about which songs are released, Kelly is just fucking dramatic.

Or are you just saying this in theory? I didn't think that songwriting royalties were distributed on a percentage basis? I thought it was even for everyone?

I didn't think that songwriting royalties were distributed on a percentage basis? I thought it was even for everyone? Publishing companies have the exact percentages - as there can be countless companies processing and administering the rights to one song (say, if three people wrote a song and they were signed to Warner, Sony and their own company respectively). The figures were released to a bunch of songs in a leaked document from Sony, which was posted on the likes of Popjustice. Even 7% of a hit song is a fair amount of money and credibility, which is why she does it. As Kelly says in the rest of the interview, if she has a credit, she's written the lyrics and melody at least.

Madonna has disputed choices before and refused to make music videos... this is hardly the same kind of dramatic! She isn't saying anything about the quality, she performs it and shot a video.
